Sandy Chan is an industrial PhD student in applied microbiology employed by the drinking water company Sydvatten and the research company Sweden Water Research. Her research project is a collaboration between Lund university and the drinking water company, allowing her to combine the best of the two parts. Sandy studies the microbial communities in drinking water treatment plants and how these living organisms are involved in the purification of our drinking water using different DNA methods. Sandy grew up in Helsingborg, Sweden and moved to Lund for her studies at the university. After completing her undergraduate studies (Master of Science in Engineering, Biotechnology) she started directly with her PhD, sampling at waterworks and analyzing samples in her lab and in front of her computer. When she is not in the lab she enjoys going to yoga classes and working in her garden.
