Swaminathan has 20 years of professional experience across various domains in social sector, academia, think tanks and the corporate world. As a senior management professional, he has helped several Fortune 500 companies, philanthropic foundations, consultancies and think tanks evolve and adopt strategies for sustainable, ecologically sensitive and community-based business practices. Notably, he was part of the founding management team of Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI) and spearheaded the foray of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) into social businesses. He is the author and editor of five books, including the forthcoming Notes of a Digital Gypsy: Decoding the Other India. He is currently a Senior Fellow with Uppsala University helping set up an interdisciplinary project hub Future Urbanisms and is an Advisor to civil society organisation Partners for Urban Knowledge Action and Research (PUKAR).
